This week, on the 21st, we experienced the #SummerSolstice. It’s also called the estival solstice, or #midsummer—who knew? It occurs when one of Earth’s poles has its maximum tilt toward the Sun and it is the day with the longest period of daylight and shortest night. The Sun is also at its highest position in the sky. The opposite event is the winter solstice.
The summer solstice is a happy time of year for us #Buffalonians. Finally, we know that the weather will be warm for a few months and we can enjoy being one with nature. The beginning of summer is like a celebration and a distraction for a period of time until we get used to the beautiful weather, then some of us get back to business as usual. Summer is a good time to farm potential clients. And Post Card Campaigns are a wonderful way to farm.
So the question is:
Do I do Direct Mail, Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM), or order a batch of postcards and print out my own address labels?
Direct Mail
This involves purchasing a targeted mailing list and having your printer produce the postcards bearing the indicia (digital postage marks) and specific addresses. Purchasing a targeted mailing list allows you to tick every box on your demographic list. Small enough postcards qualify for less expensive “Postcard Stamps.”
Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM)
This involves choosing a specific mail route(s) on the USPS website and sending your postcards to every address on the route(s). Certain sizing requirements apply and no addresses are printed on the postcards, but you get a much lower postage rate.
Mail as You Go
With this option, you simply order a batch of postcards, print out your own address labels (or hand address), and send them out as needed. And again, small enough postcards qualify for less expensive “Postcard Stamps.”
Mailing Lists
Are you interested in a one-time use list or a multi-use list? Typically the multi-use list is good for a year and costs a little more. With a multi-use list, you can do some fun things like send a series of 3 postcards to your audience—telling a story, building upon an idea, or presenting different offers.
